Maple StorySEA is a massively multiplayer role-playing game (MMORPG). Its characters and general aesthetics are those of Manga and Anime styles, so if you like these art forms, you may enjoy the game.
First, you need to choose a universe to play in. There are more than a dozen of them, and each has different rooms so you can choose any of them, provided that it is not crowded. Then, you can create a character to play, Unlike other MMORPG games, the options to customize your character are very few, so this can be a drawback if you like to fully customize your avatars.
Once you have done that, you will begin to interact with other characters, and several missions will be offered to you. You can accept or decline them. Another drawback I found at this stage of the game is that there are too many dialogues and very few actions. I spent around 10 minutes reading the characters' dialogs before actually start playing. This was very annoying. When I finally accepted a mission, I tried to use the numeric keyboard to move my character, but it didn't work. Then, I tried to use the alphabetical keys at the left of the keyboard (A, S, F, and so on), which are also commonly used, but they didn't work either. I needed to refer to the guide at the game's webpage to find out how to move the character and use its functions. I felt that I wasted much of my time.
Although the graphics are good and the Manga style could appeal to many users, I found that this game has too many drawbacks. Add to this that the installation wizard needs to download additional files before installing the game, and you will find yourself spending about one hour before actually start playing. In my opinion, it is not worth the trouble. Try if you like slow-paced games with many dialogues.
- Good graphics
- Manga style
- Wide choice of servers to play on
- The installation file needs to download additional files to complete the installation
- The game needs to change your screen setup to play correctly
